Legal & Regulations
Can I use a power of attorney to buy land in Jordan?
Answer
Yes. Power of Attorney (wakala) is widely used in Jordanian real estate transactions, particularly for overseas buyers who cannot be present. A valid POA for land purchase must be: (1) General or Special (specific to the transaction), (2) Notarized by a Jordanian notary, (3) For overseas-prepared POAs, authenticated by the Jordanian embassy in the country of execution and legalized (apostilled if applicable). The attorney-in-fact (wakeel) can execute the full transaction on behalf of the buyer. Dwaik Real Estate regularly facilitates transactions for overseas buyers using POA.
