Legal & Regulations

What is a title deed (kushan) in Jordan?

Answer

The kushan (كوشان) is the official land title deed issued by the Jordanian Land Registry Department. It is the definitive legal document proving ownership of a land plot. The kushan records: the plot number and location (liwa, qada', nahiye, and village/area code), registered owner name(s) and ID number, plot area in sqm or dunums, land classification, building coefficient, and any registered encumbrances (mortgages, liens, easements). A plot cannot be legally sold or mortgaged without its kushan. Always verify the original kushan before entering any land transaction.
