Foreign Investor's Complete Guide to Buying Land in Jordan

Can Foreigners Buy Land in Jordan?

Yes — Jordan is one of the most open real estate markets in the Arab world for foreign buyers. Under the Non-Jordanian Ownership of Real Estate Law, foreign nationals from most countries can purchase residential and commercial land in Jordan, subject to certain size restrictions and approval procedures. GCC nationals (Saudi Arabia, UAE, Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, Oman) enjoy the same ownership rights as Jordanian citizens.

Size Restrictions for Foreign Buyers

Non-GCC foreign buyers are generally subject to a maximum ownership limit of 3 dunums (3,000 sqm) in urban areas. Larger acquisitions require Council of Ministers approval but are routinely granted for legitimate investment purposes. These restrictions are intended to protect against speculative mass acquisition rather than to deter genuine investors.

The Investment Visa Incentive

Jordan offers residency incentives linked to real estate investment. Foreign nationals who invest JOD 200,000 or more in Jordanian real estate may be eligible for a long-term residency permit. This has made Jordan particularly attractive to Arab expatriates, European retirees, and investors from Gulf countries seeking a stable, accessible Levantine base.
