The Six Land Classifications in Jordan
Jordan's Land Use Law divides land into six primary classifications: (1) Residential (sakani) — for housing, apartments, and residential buildings; (2) Commercial (tijari) — for retail, offices, and mixed-use; (3) Industrial (sina'i) — for manufacturing and warehousing; (4) Agricultural (zira'i) — for farming and low-density development; (5) Tourism (siyahi) — for hotels and hospitality; (6) Natural Reserves — protected and unbuildable. Within each category, sub-classifications (A, B, C) determine density, height, and setback requirements.
